Image compressor

Drop photos and pick a target file size (handy for upload forms with a limit) or a quality level. The compressor finds the best quality that fits, right in your browser.

Images are compressed on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

For a target size, the compressor re-encodes the image at different quality levels (a binary search) to find the highest quality that fits under your limit. If even low quality is too big, it reduces the dimensions by 20% and tries again. Everything happens on your device.

Getting the best result

  • Phone photos are often 3–5 MB at 4000 px wide. For email or web forms, a max width of 1600–2000 px keeps them sharp at a fraction of the size.
  • WebP is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, but some older upload forms only accept JPG.
  • Screenshots with text compress best as PNG; use the image converter for that.
  • Compressing removes EXIF metadata, including GPS location.

Need to send several scans as one file? Combine them with images to PDF. Need an exact crop first? Use crop & resize.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a photo to under 100 KB?

Choose “Target file size”, type 100, drop your photo and press Compress.

Will compression reduce quality?

Some. JPG and WebP are lossy, but at quality 70–85% the difference is hard to see for photos.

Is there a limit on file size or number?

No fixed limit — very large batches just take longer on slower devices.
